Obviously it shouldn't be obvious to those problem accounts that they got banned. Do it how Reddit and Twitter do it. Shadowbans!

Ban the alt-right and tankies via banishing them to the shadow realm where their ideas won't spread anymore. Let the community decide. It can be based on # of marks and # of moderations and if their posts & usermap are known to match databases available from Twitter/Reddit on known nation-state troll farm shitposting. They started building these tools after stories like these came out:

Not if they make new accounts. At that point you'd need better detection than simply blocking old accounts.

Yes, removing someone from everyone's block list when they just make a new account 5 seconds later is a more ideal solution.

Or whatever is a reasonable threshold for "this is a quality user who has been here a long time and is serious."

Reddit and Twitter have already figured out how, we don't need to really reinvent.

It has to be answering this question:

"Are enough quality long-term users saying this person is a problem in the community? Send them to the shadow realm until they behave."

I, for one, don't see how this could possibly cause any problems on a board with unlimited alts and a sizeable clique of vile, bigoted users who communicate off-site through Discord and/or reddit.

Not at all. If it's mainstream it's normal conversation and there's hundreds of thousands of people on twitter and reddit who are having those views all the time.

That's not the intention or how it would be used at all. It's not how this technology gets used on platforms with significantly more users and ad revenue flowing through them.

Gamefaqs could be one of those sites again, but it would require some serious work.

Honestly none of that is even really necessary. People get trapped into pipelines trending them towards alt-right or tankie ideologies. If they don't get negative reinforcement from hits on their shitty ideas or reinforcement from "hehehe I got people to block me" then they'll just move on to new ideas.

I understand the idea but from a funding perspective, ad revenue and paid features would be sufficient tbh. The idea would be to get more people flocking here and trusting that it's a fun place.

The guides feature has come a long way since it's early days, so making it even better so people want to use it is great. Making them searchable, allowing media to be embedded in them, etc. But I wouldn't require contributing to them as a condition for an account, because then no users.

Those vets are just trapped in GOP propaganda still. They're fundamentally reasonable people at heart, and hardworking. They just haven't realized that anyone under $50 million net worth has to be on the same side lol. Because we're all trash to Bezos at the end of the day. ;)
