Is Sony the largest, most successful game maker in the world? No? Then Nintendo must be doing things the right way.

Where are the Nintendo shills?
I like Nintendo more than the other two major companies, but they can be incredibly stubborn and ass-backwards sometimes. As a lifelong Nintendo fan, it's very frustrating seeing just behind-the-times they are.

Yeah but Sony sells TVs, DVD Players other stuff besides video games. And I said that Nintendo is the best game maker. Which they are.

Not if come May-June time they start selling the games individually for 20-odd each
I'd prefer that, then I could get the only game I care about, Sunshine.

It's irritating because despite there being US branches, Nintendo of Japan still has final say over everything, just like Sega did. Even if the American divisions did try to inform them it's not a great idea, it still falls on deaf ears.

Japanese companies have some baffling and naive views on various practices and policies that really hinder what is good for growth. But it rarely affects Nintendo though because their games are consistently acclaimed and profitable.

Yeah, I sold my copy of Sunshine five years ago when I was strapped for cash, but I already own SM64 and Galaxy, so being able to buy Sunshine on its own would be great.

The best part is how they're literally not even removing it from the eshop, they're simply removing the ability to buy it.

That's generally how removing things from the shop works, yes. Every single game and piece of content that has ever been delisted works that way.

There are certainly some cultural aspects of Japan that are not conducive to company mobility. It's actually worse in Korea, though. Most companies are highly vertically integrated, with strong deference to the owners and family of owners. Company loyalty is highly valued, but unfortunately employees themselves are often not. A common theme in Japanese companies is an unwillingness to directly question your superiors, and to me the most iconic examples of this are Squaresoft / Tetsuya Nomura, and the N64 (cartridge format.)

Tetsuya Nomura was and still is notorious for coming up with wild ideas at the last minute, then demanding that the entire project shift to encorporate them, which results in dozens of unfinished products that all come across as convoluted. Kingdom Hearts as proof.

The only reason they're doing this is to boost up their financial reporting results. Same reason why EA often force a game to release in March.

It's hilariously transparent. They're not even trying to hide their greed. There's that Fire Emblem game too that is also bring delisted.

Makes me wonder if there was some big money maker that got delayed due to COVID or if this was always the plan.
