absolutely not unless they have medical needs I cannot handle.

I love and respect my parents and they will live with me or in their own house for as long as they want and need.

My father? Yes. He'll be lucky if I even consider paying for THAT. Fuck him. My mother I couldn't do that to.

It's not as though you always get a choice. If your parent gets dementia for example, after a certain point, they need care 24/7 that most people wouldn't be able to give them even if they had the time or money. it can depend on disease progression too. My father got dementia-like symptoms from metastatic brain cancer, and if he hadn't rapidly weakened, he would have needed to be institutionalized because he was both violent and paranoid. Depending on how far gone they are, they won't necessarily know who you are, where they are, or what you are doing for them.

Putting an elder into a nursing home is sometimes just the best decision for everyone involved, and sometimes it really isn't even a choice. I don't know how common either situation is, but I felt I had to say something on behalf of families that get dealt a bad hand.

My dad and I are working to put my mom in a nursing home. Her Alzheimer's is so bad that it's simply unsustainable to take care of her anymore. My dad can't get by on 3 hours of sleep a day, since she won't stop fighting

No, and I'm a Director. They actually want to retire and live peacefully in their home country anyway.

Alzheimers is terrible, sorry to hear. We took care of my Grandfather as long as we could until I would have to carry him because my grandmother was also old. He lived 8 years longer than the doctor expected so we had to see him in a nursing home. My Grandmother never had to go to one and lived to 98.My Grandfather 99.

Made the same promise to my Dad,whatever it takes. I'll find a way, luckily my area has great options for home care now and medicine delivery.

Considering I have little to no contact with my parents, then I have no say in doing so anyway. At any rate, every case is different.

I'm worried about my dad needing to be put in one more and more as his health deteriorates, especially with how stubborn he is.
