It's actually a good idea.

George Washington always made comments about how he didn't want to get paid for his public service because it would make it seem like money was the reason he was doing it and that would be insulting to his integrity.

Isn't there a whole other side to that where he spent way too much on the war or embezzled money or something like that?

The one thing that always get bipartisan support is politicians giving themselves pay raises. Pieces of shit. America needs to grow a pair and stop letting them get away with all the bullshit.

This law would have been effective back when you could buy houses and pay tuition on min. wage. Nowadays it would basically reserve Congress seats for the wealthy

No he definitely didn't do that. I fact congress was broke and they wouldn't give him nearly enough of what he needed. He had 1/10th the ammunition he needed, he was always short of men cuz they didn't want to pay soldiers enough, and his men didn't even have basic clothes alot of times. He was constantly begging to congress to even fund these basic necessities.

He was a big spender in general but that was his own money. He pretty much spent what he had and always had financial stress in his life even though he was well off. He may have written off some of those expenses as war expenses but those were things he actually used during the war, not things he was trying to take home for himself... Things like clothes, transport like carriages, horses, etc.

And his image was a big reason he was so well respected and what got him to all of his high up positions.
