People hate on artists all the time.
Sorry I guess I mean CE hot topic discourse more specifically

Things people shit on artists for:
- having opinions
- making mistakes

Things people shit on streamers for:
-not having a real job
-begging for handouts

The streamer criticisms apply to amateur artists I guess.

There isn't as much "artists dont really do anything valuable" criticism

I'm not sure. If I say average artist, I mean someone not successful who isn't getting a lot of attention on their work. But I guess successful artists too. I mean anyone who makes and sells a creative product.

Being personally interesting for hours, imo, takes about as much creative energy as making art, so it's not just a matter of one group "making something" since there is still effort, and still a product.

My feeling is just that if one is a grift, both are gifts, because the sentiment that streaming isn't a "real" job is a utilitarian critique

People still make fun of those who go to college for art degrees though, and businesses often only offer unpaid internships for artists; it's an incredibly undervalued profession in general.

Bob Ross knew what was up. He gave his show to PBS for free, and funded it all via his art-supplies catalog.
Joy of Painting was all just an infomercial the whole time.

Yeah they make fun of the school, but they don't make fun of the job itself. No one says to a comic artist "oh you just sit and draw pictures for 4 hours a day" but streamers get that all the time. I guess it depends on success with art, but less so with streaming. And yes it's just a vocal minority of people complaining I guess

If someone went to broadcasting school to be a better streamer I guess people would laugh at them too

I dunno. Artists are usually severely underpaid unless they're on the very top, and people still have a very specific idea of what I do when I tell them I make illustrations and cartoons. A lot of people don't see it as something "adults" do, even if the content of the work is thoughtful and mature. Graphic designers, and more traditional fine arts types are about the only ones who people actually respect.

Fair enough but streaming isn't exactly an adult activity per se either, it's mostly a youth culture thing. Maybe that is why it gets a bad rap...

I'm convinced people who hate on streamers just don't get it. Or are just jelly that they can't stream for a living.

The majority of streamers who make enough to do it for a living are mostly selling themselves based on their personality, the vibes they give off and their opinions,Their actuall gameplay barely matters. Just chatting is extremely big. Slower paced games where the streamer just talks and gives their hot takes with gameplay in the background are also extremely common.

Bascially Streamers are more comparable to radio hosts than artists. You watch for the streamer not the product. whereas it's the opposite with artists.

Fair comparison, maybe, but radio hosts are usually hired by a company and streamers are usually indie. Hololive obviously is a middle ground here
