It's a meme, I get it, but there's a lot of people who think that unironically.

Like I love the show, it's hilarious, and the writing in a lot of episodes is pretty snappy and sharp, but it's not particularly complex or high brow lol.

It's wittier than some crap like Zombie Simpsons, Family Guy, or that awful season of South Park with the Danish people so some turbonerd thought that it was the "thinking" man's cartoon.

Some of the jokes involve science
It's like how Futurama (if you're a Millennial) how 'smart people' jokes.

It's not high brow but it's the science jokes that are the reason why you must have a very high IQ to fully grasp it

The fact that it happens to have alternate dimensions with some casual physics jokes and an occasional moment where Rick's lifestyle is accurately portrayed to be depressing.

Turbonerds spun this into it being high brow show about science and nihilism with a comedy veneer. Which is hilarious because there's literally a character named Mr. Poopybutthole.

Its kind of sad because how tainted by turbonerds its become.

But I think its just evident in the show itself. Its not that its hard to understand. In fact its how it takes pretty fascinating and complex concepts and dilutes them into fart and boner jokes that makes it appeal to the masses.

Its a pretty fantastic and well written show all around. But again its following has tainted the fuck out of it.

There are actually people who think they are like Rick. Not even fucking joking.

I actually encountered a dude trying to flex on everyone at a party with his massive brain (he is a HUGE R&M fan) about physics and the shit he said made me want to hang myself.

A bunch of bullshit about Quantum Mechanics and Electromagnetism.

rick sanchez much like the joker has become an icon to people who want to embrace nihilism but dont want the responsibility that choice entails (suicide). for both of those characters they pretty much have to keep pushing themselves because otherwise in their heads there would be no point to living. i guess people don't get that point? because now people take their ethos (there is no point to it all, it's all a big game) and just use it to be enlightened incels or red pillers who think theyve figure out that the matrix is maybe real. once again if you really think life is a matrix you should pretty much either be killing yourself or trying to fight against your controllers.

the big lebowski was ahead of its time, mocking self proclaimed nihilists who confuse nihilism with their own flaws like laziness, envy, or personal shortcomings (turns out they were a failed music trio). at the end of the movie walter screams who are the nihilists around here because they are crying about their plan not working. that is the high iq ricky morty fan basically.

I think the show peaked in the first season, sadly. Season 2 was really good, but not quite season 1 good IMO.

seasons 3 and 4 were hardly bad tv, but nothing particularly special.

I currently have no reason to believe the show is going to improve much beyond where it's at now.

At least the Simpsons had several seasons of absolutely gold.

agreed 100%. first season felt like anything could happen. the next few seasons decided to reign in on the characters and their development rather than expand on that feeling of possibility. i can only speak for myself as i feel im in the minority but when the writers didnt care about character motivation and it was just a crazy nihilist grandpa forcing his stupid grandson on adventures, the show was at it's peak.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens.

What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
Finally I was waiting for the pasta lol

When you're listening to Tool, just remember that they're not like other bands. Their music is incredibly artistic, almost to the point where you have to be paying complete attention to them to even remotely understand them. I remember listening to a song on Lateralus (though I can't remember what it was), where I thought a song was absolute bollocks during the listen. Then, I closed my eyes for a second, and all of a sudden the song had an entirely new meaning. It was insane the way Tool could just become something so different when you take a look into the music.

Another thing you should note about Tool is that it's easy to get a headache listening to them. Not because they're a bad band, but because of how many ideas their music is riddled with and how complex they are. Soon enough your head will fill to the brim and the rest will just sound like noise to you. Just turn it off and give it a listen the next day.

If you don't like the music, you'll definitely at least enjoy reading through the lyrics, and picking apart the song itself and all of the artistic values that go into making it the complexity that it is.
