I dont talk politics with my dad for that exact reason but at the end of the day he is still my dad. to answer your question tc, it all varies. Mine was at work most of the time, so he was either working, sleeping or at the bar. We were provided for, but I cant tell you a single baseball/football game that I played in where he attended. I just know how it felt not having him there. My mom/grandma/nanny attended everything they could, so that was nice. with that said, I can now say the grandpa my kids know is not the dad I knew. He quit drinking ages ago, my mom amd him have a way better relationship and he does what he can for my kids. We're just largely more comfortable that way for the most part. He's not a bad guy for someone who grew up in the 50s. He'll watch Colbert and John Oliver and Rachel Maddow, so at least my folks haven't fallen down that rabbit hole.
