Does it count if he was around but never really paid attention to you and preferred to be at the bar with his friends?

they never acknowledge you, or almost never. when they do acknowledge you it's to hit you, break your stuff, make you eat your own puke, threaten you w/homelessness, etc etc

mine's been poisoned by conservative talk radio, u can have him

My mom told me my dad was a Trump Supporter and suddenly all my feelings of wanting to actually connect with him some day disappeared. Sounds like it would be annoying now. My dad's Mexican too. So ...yeah, that boy gone

You would give up your dad bc of his political leanings? I dont talk politics with my dad for that exact reason but at the end of the day he is still my dad.

to answer your question tc, it all varies. Mine was at work most of the time, so he was either working, sleeping or at the bar. We were provided for, but I cant tell you a single baseball/football game that I played in where he attended. But everything happens for a reason, bc of him I never miss anything involving my children

I don't even get that luxury. I met him once when I was, like, 4 or 5. He's been living in a whole 'nother country ever since.

I wouldn't exactly call it a luxury, but yea. You're better off he sounds like a piece of shit if he skips out and doesn't try at all to connect

Sounds like we had the same experience. But tbf, it's not like if he was around you'd be like "That means I don't have to be around for my kids, since he did that". You would of did it either way, cause that seems to be who you are.

I'd take your situation over Thighons. A toxic relationship isn't better than none >_>. Calling that a "luxury" is pretty fucked up bruh

I just know how it felt not having him there. My mom/grandma/nanny attended everything they could, so that was nice.

with that said, I can now say the grandpa my kids know is not the dad I knew. He quit drinking ages ago, my mom amd him have a way better relationship and he does what he can for my kids. At the end of the day I am blessed

My bad. I was partially joking about thatf. first part. If someone was actually like that, it would probably be better off if they weren't around.

But yeah, according to my mom, he's not a good person. I know it's kind of unfair to take one side without hearing the other, but seeing that, as far as I know, he has never made an attempt to reach out; I'm inclined to believe her.

Sounds like he's trying to have some type of redemption. That's good. It's better than him never finding that place in his heart. Sucks you missed out on it, but it takes a bigger person to not let that ruin their kids getting their grandpa.

I have a decent relationship with my dad. I inherited his solitary nature, which is not to say we never hang out. We're just largely more comfortable that way for the most part.

He's not a bad guy for someone who grew up in the 50s. He'll watch Colbert and John Oliver and Rachel Maddow, so at least my folks haven't fallen down that rabbit hole.

I wish we had more in common, but honestly I took so hard to video games and he couldn't catch up.

Never met my dad. I sent him a letter when I was 11, he responded once which informed me I have a younger brother and sister (who would be adults now) and never replied to my next letter asking to meet. We live in the same city.

All I know is, the few times I've watched the Hangover movies with my mom, she loves making jokes equating him to Ken Jeong's character. I know it's a hyperbole, but that makes me not sure if I even want to meet him lol

I had a Dad until I was 10. He cheated on my mom, beat her up and left us.

So I have no clue as to what its like to have a Dad. All I do know, is I am being the best father to my son that I can be.
