Inspired by this topic. I've played a LOT of 90's games in general, and would love to continue thinking about them and giving my thoughts.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/213-nonstop-gaming-general/79313874

Try not to name more than 10 games at once before I reply to you though.

Here's some examples:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MD, 1992) followed by these games:S TIer
Pocky & Rocky (SNES, 1992) S Tier (The Rare Shoot-Em Up I enjoy.)
Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole (MD, 1992) F Tier(God the controls! Great music though)
Super Aleste (SNES) (Hmm, what is this?)
Ultima VII: The Black Gate (PC) & Ultima VII: Forge of Virtue (PC) F TIER
Streets of Rage 2 (MD) ? Tier(Can't decide is if hard for the wrong reasons or not.)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (GB, 1992) B Tier(One of the few GB games I've enjoyed)
Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness (NES, 1992/GB, ) F Tier(Hard for all the wrong reasons.)
Final Fantasy V (SNES) F Tier (Unfunny comedy)

TMNT IV/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (ARC, 1991/SNES, 1992) S Tier (SNES game is my favorite beat em up. Arcade game just makes me wanna play the SNES game.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (MD, 1992) (Isn't this just Turtles in Time, only a few of the levels.)
Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES) S Tier(My 2nd favorite SNES game after Super Castlevania. God it's fun!)
Bucky O'Hare (NES, 1992) F Tier(Goes on for too long considering what it is, and there's boss battles that you can't tell what you can or can't touch.)
Mega Man 5 (NES, 1992) S Tier (One of the few NES games I enjoy. And yeah, I think 3-6 are all S Tier.)
Kirby's Dream Land (GB) A Tier(Thank you Nintendo for making this game super short and satisfying!)

Unless you're loaded, save your money, and wait for sales. This isn't the 90's anymore, and most games don't become hard to find. And don't pre-order.

Riven: The Sequel to Myst F Tier (The acting REALLY dates it! I have no idea what they're saying.)

Anything else you'd like to hear my thoughts on?

(all SNES) Good, because that's where most of my passion for the 90's lies! I'm a total SNES afficianado!
King Arthur's World S Tier (Feels like the puzzle game for people that don't like puzzle games. Also, dear god the music!)
Kablooey Z Tier (Wierd and annoying.)
B.O.B. Z Tier (The harsh time limits kills this game for me, which is a shame because it's pretty sweet otherwise.)
Lord of the Rings Z Tier (Pretty much universally hated, and I'd really like to know what the history behind this game was. Just WHY?!!!!! Great soundtrack IIRC though.)
Krusty's Super Fun House C Tier (Played through it a couple times, nothing special, but it's short enough to not wear out its welcome, and not hard enough that it feels unplayable.)
Metal Marines Z Tier (After one level I am SO sick of playing this!)
Spanky's Quest C Tier(Um...I guess I sorta like it. Kinda forgettable though.)
Utopia ? Tier (Oooh, the rare SNES game I've never heard of. What is it, and how is it?)

@Sahuagin That was fun. Please give me another big list if you're willing.

Chrono Trigger S Tier (Probably my favorite SNES rpg after Shadowrun. Made a whole topic on the rpg board where I played through the game in one sitting over the course of 18 hours, and wrote down of notes.)

@Ogurisama Sorry, missed this from yesterday.

So I did something crazy, inspired by wanting to play a ton of great rpgs topic.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/220-rpgs-role-playing-games/77552139#34

I decided not to go to sleep, and play through the entirety of Chrono Trigger in about 16 hours.3 or 4 hours hours of which was me grinding to learn all spells for Chrono, Frog, Lucca, and Robo like I usually do. My final Party was Lucca, Frog, and Robo, Robo was my mvp as I give him all of my magic tablets, and most of my speed tablets(the rest went to lucca) so his heal all party members skill could be put to good use. Oh, and I did every endgame sidequest outside of the black omen, although I did explore there a little so I could steal some shit from enemies.

As for why I think it's amazing, it's because it such a solid experience. Something that really puts me off about a lot of jrpgs from the ps2 era and onward is that it feels like the writers think they're geniuses, and are writing the deepest thing ever, but they don't really seem to care if the games make sense or not, or how much dialogue really doesn't need to be there, and as result most of parts of the game that are least supposed to be deep and engaging are kinda lost to me because it's so convoluted.

And here we have Chrono Trigger, there's probably a few hours worth of dialogue, but everything was clear to me, and there were more than enough compelling characters., and the combat was so much fun in its simplicity.

I especially liked how you don't have Crono in your party, have an entire party that actually communicates.

So glad I did this, but yeah, gotta get some sleep now.

  • King Arthur's World S Tier (Feels like the puzzle game for people that don't like puzzle games. Also, dear god the music!)
ok, if you like KAW, that makes me happy. I don't think most people have heard of it or know what it is. I would describe it as lemmings with a medieval army. one of my favorites of all time, (I really should get my SNES hooked up and play it.)

  • Kablooey Z Tier (Wierd and annoying.)
aw. it's a great puzzle game. it is weird and the music is also weird (and yes annoying). but the puzzles are good and very unique.

  • B.O.B. Z Tier (The harsh time limits kills this game for me, which is a shame because it's pretty sweet otherwise.)
I enjoyed the gameplay, but the game did seem too hard. have not played it in a long time, not sure if I'd still like it.

  • Lord of the Rings Z Tier (Pretty much universally hated, and I'd really like to know what the history behind this game was. Just WHY?!!!!! Great soundtrack IIRC though.)
I played through the whole thing as a kid and really liked the atmosphere. I was just reading LotR at the time and the combination of the two made it very interesting to play. the worst part by far were the terrible maps.

(the caves/dungeons would reuse the exact same room with different doors, over and over and over, so it was almost impossible to keep track of where you are. I would draw a map on paper if I played it today, but not sure that'd help or not.)

also it was a bit exploitable IIRC, where you could for example take out the wringwraiths by stun locking them the right way. the atmosphere was awesomely bleak though, and the mines of moria in particular I remember being very tense.

  • Krusty's Super Fun House C Tier (Played through it a couple times, nothing special, but it's short enough to not wear out its welcome, and not hard enough that it feels unplayable.)
I liked it as a kid, but trying it again as an adult it feels kind of lame. it seems very "adequate", with uninteresting level design, mostly relying on the Simpson's factor to make it appealing. I've never gotten very far though.

  • Metal Marines Z Tier (After one level I am SO sick of playing this!)
aw. very enjoyable strategy game. I've never made it past level 3 or 4 though, it gets quite hard, and yeah it can be a bit tedious.

  • Spanky's Quest C Tier(Um...I guess I sorta like it. Kinda forgettable though.)
I liked it a lot as a kid. very unique gameplay and style. (not the best game ever or anything, but very enjoyable for such a basic game.)

  • Utopia ? Tier (Oooh, the rare SNES game I've never heard of. What is it, and how is it?)
I can barely remember, but it's a strategy game where you build colonies on alien planets, and in later levels possibly have to fight (or at least negotiate with) the native aliens. one of the first strategy games I ever played. has Pachelbel's Canon, like KAW, which was one partial reason I liked both games.

...I always forget that that game even exists. I think it must have come out just before the N64 and so I only had it a short time before selling all my SNES stuff for an N64. it was great at the time, if a bit slow framerate-wise.
