I keep seeing people say that this is Skyward Sword's moment to fix the issue that made the original disliked. But the thing is, the original wasn't bad because of motion controls, it was bad because the pacing and design felt weirdly amateurish for a Zelda title. Even compared to Twilight Princess, which if anything was guilty of being too much like Ocarina of Time for its own good.

Lack of sense of exploration given the barren sky area and cramped ground areas.

Repeated challenges (the Trials that require you to avoid the statues).

To which I say, shut up.

One of the biggest issues I had with Skyward Sword is that it clearly was meant to bridge the gap between Wind Waker and OoT / TPs design, but wound up doing neither as well.

While I wouldn't say I enjoyed the motion controls, I would have at least tolerated them if the underlying game was good.

If nothing else, they were a step up from the waggle from the Wii version of Twilight Princess.

The motion controls were the reason I stopped playing it originally (think I was about two thirds through), and they pissed me off so much that I didn't really register many other problems (not that I doubt they exist).

I'm actually kinda looking forward to playing with normal controls so that I can at least work out what else I don't like about the game, haha.

I remember not liking the mining facility dungeon. i actually forgot lots of this game looking back at a guide. hated the gathering missions that seemed everywhere getting was it music notes? and fighting that pit monsters like 30 times

this.

in OoT you walk the equivalent of 10 miles in hyrule field to get from point A to point B, and it already felt massive, but fun.

in TP and SS you walk 100 miles to do the same. But there is nothing to keep you engaged or interested, there is nothing, you just.... walk.

in botw you walk 800 miles to do the same. But there is a stable full of people, mountains to climb, monster camps to attack, veggies to collect and hidden items every 5 miles. It may be open space, but its still full of things to do.

I feel the opposite - I didn't mind the waggle in TP, Galaxy etc. - it was the Motion+ stuff that I hated.

The first ten-fifteen minutes are quite impressive as you play around with it (which is probably why it remains a lot of fun in Wii Sports Resort), but the creeping horror of the realisation that you need to be doing this for a whole huge adventure game is just... awful, IMO.

Some novelty control schemes just aren't suitable for games that you want to sit down with for several hours at a time.

I disliked stuff like enemies who mostly just moved their weapon to one of a few positions so you would hit them by slashing in the correct direction. Controls worked well, but stuff like that is just not particularly fun or engaging. Enemies should be trying to kill you, not posing and asking you to kill them.
