Just had this brainwave and had to share with the class.

You have the story playing out, and then every so often the format shifts (dialogue to song for musicals, past tense to present for ROTS) and a character delivers their "I am" or "I want" moment, and then it's back to the story.

And besides, the whole thing's like poetry. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
