Hmm. Doesn't look like he traced it to me because some elements are slightly different from the original piece.

It's more likely that he did a quick Google search, and used the original image as a reference not knowing it was the work of an independent artist.

Artists copy poses all the time, usually just adding their own unique flair to it.

And I think in this particular instance, it's likely whoever commissioned him sent him this photo and he just went with it. And probably didn't know exactly how to pose her due to unfamiliarity with the character.

Not to defend Butch Hartman because I hear he's a shit person, but the only reason this is getting this much attention is because he's a famous artist.

A while back he tried to crowdfund a streaming service. He pitched it as a "family friendly network" to backers, but he actually pitched it as basically a Christian indoctrination network to investors. When people found out, they rightly asked for their money back, which he refused.

As a Graphic Novelist let me say, its not a trace, but it is definitely plagiarism. He copied the pose, which is entirely acceptable if you use a different character. But this guy decided to do the same character, and made an inferior work in his "style". This is why people choose other characters, so your not compared to others and seen as a hack.

Top it off, the original art was fanart, and this is a commission. Highly unethical. Wont get him fired or anything, just makes him a douchebag.
