Is it because of how massive Hyrule Field is without a disproportionate amount of new content added in? Or is it because there's not much exploration outside of dungeons later on in the game? The slow start? Or something else? Seems like the same set of criticisms of Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and Skyward Sword show up in topics about them, but more often than not, people bash TP without actually stating why.

Wolf Link sections were awful, Zant was a terrible villain, Hyrule Field was massive and empty. And the fact that most people played it on Wii with the god awful waggle controls didn't help. Midna was a great character but her presence made Zelda completely nonexistent.

Zapping in and out of Wolf form constantly broke the pacing of most temples in the game.
Waggle controls on Wii were horrid and only sucked up enjoyment in combat

That's really it imo but those two are serious game-defining complaints given how important those mechanics were.

grimdark hyrule didn't really look so good on the wii. i've heard it looked much better in the re-release.

To me it was the top. That thing was completely useless outside its dungeon and shouldnt have been added. Should have come up with a better tool and puzzles to go with it.

That and I could kill Ganondorf with fishing rod.. like, cmon.

I don't hate it, but I never can get far whenever I replay it. I really dug it the first time, but just can't do it again.

The first three dungeons felt a little too much like retreads of OoT, the spinner and ball & chain were a little too situational, and that horrible baby was a little too horrible. I don't hate the game though. I thought the swordplay was fun and once you storm Hyrule Castle, the whole rest of the game is pretty cool.

Ive tried playing through it twice, and stopped less than halfway through it both times. I wouldnt say I disliked it, but I lost interest. It never hooked me.

So much of the questing was just boring, and a lot of the bosses were letdowns. I didn't mind playing as a wolf too much, but so much of what you had to do as a wolf was lame. Here's an entirely linear section with nothing but context-fixed platforming and no need for timing! Here, collect a bunch of fucking glowy shit for this contrived plot-reason!

I dont hate it, but the start is very slow and the Wolf sections are hit and miss. I did like the visual style and Midna though. Id play it again if it comes to Switch.

I love TP but the beginning is slow as hell, wolf mode sucks, and the weird orange filter on everything is mad annoying. Also Midna is an asshole sidekick

But, great game nonetheless

Extremely slow start and the original's graphics aged astonishingly poorly in very rapid fashion.

Still a damn good game, though.

I don't hate it but it's my least favorite 3D Zelda. It's very "Zelda by the numbers" and lacks the charm of the other games.

For me, there's an x factor that makes the whole world feel dead that I don't get in the other 3D Zelda games. I don't really know what's doing that, I just know that's how I feel when I play it.

To me, Twilight Princess was what Ocarina of Time should have been. Loved it all.

it didn't really click for me until the hd version. you could see all the details better like the little animals in the forest and the big hyrule firld was fun to be in now since it was bright and wide and you could see far off stuff like heart pieces better. before it was blurry and muddy. hd is a great game

I hated the wolf sections the most but honestly it was the battle music. I just found it so annoying. It would give me headaches. Also the blue bug-like things... that was also a pain in the ass, there were just too many. I think they lowered the amount of them in the HD version on Wii U but it was still a horrible experience.
NPC models also looked horrible but it didn't ruin the game for me.

It's literally in my top 5. The real question is how anyone can claim to be a fan of the franchise when Breath of the Wild sits in their number 1 spot.

It's my second favorite 3D Zelda game right behind OoT. The wolf sections were fun...except for finding the light sections. And even that is only terrible when you get to Zora's domain. That section outright sucks. Midna is a great companion character.

The game is a huge improvement over the lifeless and tedious ocean of Wind Waker.

Twilight Princess also does a better job with motion control than Skyword Sword. Mostly that there is just "slash" and no imprecise vertical/horizontal slash.
