It's obvious why republicans hate progressives so I don't need to ask.

But democrats are supposed to be socially left. Progressives are socially left. But American progressives are a bit more economically left than democrats too.

Do democrats weigh their own financial interests and "THE ECONOMY" more than they weigh civil liberties and human rights?

Slowly but surely 'those' Democrats will see the light soon after Biden guides them through the swamp.

They don't.

I'd also wager that most people who call themselves leftist are pretty much just democrats. There are a few outliers that literally want to tear down the current system and try to set up communism, but most probably just want a heavily regulated system that works for the people more than it does corporations.

The Democrats are the center-right party. The US doesn't have any parties that lean left of center, only a handful of people.

Helping people would get in the way of corporate bailouts after their high risk decisions stop turning record profits.

Most Democrats have some fairly progressive ideals, but the self identified Progressives with a capital P have a very anti-compromise my-way-or-the-highway mentalitt

That would be true if the democrats ever compromised with the progressives, which they hardly do if at all.

Yeah, to use one example: Medicare for All would completely level the private health insurance industry, which is a major donor to the Democratic Party and Democratic politicians(as well as Republicans, of course). However, it would be highly beneficial to Democratic voters(and the public in general).
Ill let you take one guess which interest the Democrats prioritize. The essential tension on this issue(and many others) is that mainstream Dems generally think things are mostly fine and all that is necessary is some tinkering. Progressives generally want major reforms, and leftists basically want to build new, more equitable systems.
To mainstream Dems, especially the partys often gerontocratic leadership, this all seems hopelessly naive, at best, and destructive at worst. They demonstrated in the 2020 primaries how far theyll go to preserve the status quo.
