yea.

if they can think, feel, hope, etc., or their programming makes them believe that they do, I don't see why not.

we're basically high functioning robots ourselves, where our "programming" has us reacting to a number of inputs, but instead of being made of metals, plastics, and so on, we're made out of meat.
