The stoppage time makes no sense.

The referee just randomly decides how much time to add without rhyme or reason and then randomly ends the game whenever he feels like it.

The system of "Stop the clock everytime the ball is out of play, then the half ends once the ball is out of play after 45 minutes. Barring penalty or free kick." Used in every real sport is way better. It makes sense, is practical, consistent, easy to understand and allows for exciting finishes.

I've seen soccerball games where the ball is out of play for like 12 minutes then the ref adds 2 for stoppage time and then ends it 90 seconds in when one team is attacking and it's just fucking dumb.

Something like this couldn't happen in soccerball:

And that's an absolute tavesty.

it makes perfect sense. it accounts for the time that was lost during things like like offside, fouls, disciplinary actions, or var reviews.

remember in the 04 euro cup finals when the one fan ran into the field during the greece vs portugal final. they used that time security apprehended the fan off the pitch as extra time.

i think what you have an issue with is what was described as "fergie time" like when the ref put up an excessive amount of time in the 99 champions league final and manchester united scored 2 goals to win it.

Sure

But why is the ref randomly saying "Oh I think there was about 3 minutes of that I guess, lol. guess I'll end the match when I feel like it LULZ!"?

No real sport does that.

What they do is Stop the Clock for offside, fouls, injuries, disciplinary actions, or var reviews. Restart it when play resumes.

Then after 45 minutes of play, once the ball is in touch. Then the half ends. That way it's 100% accurate, consistent and allows exciting finishes.

I'm not knocking the concept of stopping the clock, I'm knocking the fucking stupid idea of random "Stoppage Time" and random ending of games at the whim of the referee who probably can't even spell Stoppage.

it adds a layer of excitement.
notice how team play harder when down a goal during injury time. they take more chances trying to equalize the game and it's shown goal scoring goes up during that stage of play.

The worst thing is penalty kicks are used to decide playoff games, even the World Cup Final match

No it doesn't

It utterly removes excitement. Something like the Japan/South Africa finish I posted could not happen in soccer and that's awful

And all this would be massively multiplied if that extra time was

  1. Legit and consistent.
  2. One fuck up and the game ends. That's what makes it exciting.
Turning the game into a random innaccurate, inconsistent whim of referees does nothing but dull the game.

You seriously think a sport with 12 minutes of stoppages in a game having 90 seconds of stoppage time at the whim of some guy without rhyme or reason is a good system?

It makes no sense

uruguay vs ghana had one of the best moments in world cup history involving a penalty kick though when luis suarez purposely handballed to stop a sure goal.

it's your opinion but that psg vs atalanta game was pretty exciting during the champions league quarter final when psg scored two unanswered to win in injury time.

That happened during overtime before the penalty kicks. That's how playoff games should end, with someone scoring a goal in overtime.

they tried the golden goal method and all teams did was "park the bus" and play to penalty kicks cause no one was willing to take chances.
