nope, too passive. even if a girl kinda likes a guy she will be hesitant to make the first move. more likely she'll only make the first move if she is SUPER into you, which you can't rely on. the only option is to start flirting lightly, feel it out and escalate appropriately. i used to only do pick up on girls at the gym, you just gotta know how to read and adjust accordingly

Its not even that a girl will never make the first move...but you want to take the optimal path over a long period of time to achieve maximum success.
Relying on girls to make the first move over a long period of time is a losing proposition. It's perfectly appropriate to hit on a girl at the gym...you just gotta know how to scale it properly and adjust properly. As usual you fail to understand any nuance

Generally, if she's a regular at the gym, I'd steer clear of asking her out because if she says no, your future gym sessions will be very awkward for a long time (speaking from experience).

If she's not a regular, then shoot your shot. I met my ex girlfriend at the gym that way. She was a regular at another branch but got a quick workout in at my gym before her class in nursing school that one day. Got her number, rest was history.

things are only as awkward as you make them. finding someone interesting and wanting to get to know them better isn't really something to be embarrassed about. if you weren't weird doing it and not weird about it after it's really nbd. it's all your frame/state of mind
