Invoking God or religion in general is a shorthand for referencing something innate to the universe.

The idea behind human rights is that they are inherently true, and were so even before humans had defined them as such.

And it wasnt the Founding Fathers ideas either; what they were speaking of wasnt human rights in general but specific rights related to their grievances with England.

Human rights in general go back to the Romans and arguably even farther back than the Greeks before them.

People have rights that are bestowed upon them just from birth. By virtue of their birth. Endowed upon them by their Creator.

Whether you want to call the Creator God, Nature, the Universe etc. They are basic universal rights. The right to free thought the right to live. Someone can infringe upon these rights but just because they do doesn't change the fact that you are owed these fundamental rights.

That's the principle behind God Given rights. No type of legislation can take away your right to have these freedoms. Any legislation written by another's mortal hand that infringes upon ther rights makes the law itself illegitimate and it becomes a freedom loving individuals duty to disobey and resist such a law

This is the idea that behind what's written in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence
