DK and Mario (then called Jumpman) both debuted in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong. Do you think this means Mario's franchise is a spin-off of Donkey Kong?

Rare messed it all up by making Cranky Kong "the original Donkey Kong." Mario's still young, but Donkey Kong is an old man? Mario used to dodge barrels thrown by Donkey Kong but now he's racing against Donkey Kong's grandson and still young?
But, yeah, Mario came from Donkey Kong. That makes him a spinoff of Donkey Kong the same way that Wolverine is technically a spinoff of the Incredible Hulk. ... Copied to Clipboard!
