For the record, this is the other stud finder I was using. This is why I originally did not detect it as a stud. As you can see, I'm near a stud, but the light is not lit up

I've had a few things like curtain rods come with those screw-type drywall anchors, but they leave such big ass holes compared to the other type.

I'd be happy if this topix got to 500.

that seems nice. question though. do you use a stud finder? what kind do you use?
No stud finder, just drill and pop them in. As others have mentioned, these are the anchors that flare out. Just figured the pic would help if you go back to the hardware shop and are looking for them. I use the ones that need a 5/8 drill bit to make the hole.

The screw ones are just terrible.

Got it, but you're not worried you're going to drill into electrical wiring?

Bro, you've already put a hole in the wall. Stick a screwdriver in it. Do you feel a stud or other obstruction? My guess is you hit a stud and those plastic screws will never go in. Just use normal screws if that's the case
Good point, that might seem like a captain obvious thing to do. But here's why I can't. The hole does not line up with the shelving I'm trying to put in. Believe me, I had it lined up when I was trying to get the anchor in, but the anchor kept moving around and somehow created a hole next to the spot I was trying to get it in

I try to put a screw in the right spot, but it keeps trying to default to the other path

I do a general check to ensure no outlets are directly in line with where Im drilling like it says here:

Oh that's a good point. Someone asked this, I can't remember who. There is an outlet below where I'm trying to screw, but it's not directly below. It's a few inches away. Here's a picture for reference

when you are lining it up you manually screw it in or at least manually start it so the thread you create is straight. if you use the screw gun from the get go, any resistance throws it off and you slide around until something catches, by then you're off target.

I'd be pissed if something in the wall made my gameroom look like ass.

You could be hitting a combination of the wall stud or blocking. The self also looks a little crooked but that could because it not fully screwed in.

I'm going to try screwing in some screws into spots that both of my stud finders recognize it studs. I wish me luck

Lol I havent tried electronic stud finders - only used a magnetic one that finds the screws and if the finder gets caught up every now and then vertically chances are theres a stud there

Thats with Sheetrock though and only if its not totally metal heh

usually those old world outlet boxes can be next to a stud, if you take off the face plate you can look inside and see if theres a screw to the left or right

if its a metal box sometimes they have a flag to the left or right, itll be buried because of the wall but maybe you can see a piece of metal extending to the sides

there should be wiring right at the sides of the beams so just hope you get surface and not the edge.. wires dont be pressed up against the sheet rock, they only travel inside and are stapled to the side of the beam

not sure why those things wont go in, maybe theres concrete or brick and the wall is just there to look nice
