Considering the majority of people are "cisgendered", I'm gonna wager it's a very high percentage as your average person is either supportive or indifferent to the trans community, not transphobic. I'm not sure where you get less than half tbh.
I don't think the majority of people who take issue with being referred to as "cis" are supportive or indifferent to the trans community

When you compare the problems that occur when straight vs. when pretty much anything else (to varying degrees), it's hard not to see how petty straight people problems are. Keep in mind, Im simply talking about problems that pertain to your sexuality and gender. Not saying a straight person with cancer has it easier than the average gay person. I know how you guys love reaching, let's dead that shit.

It's like how white people are like "our problems matter too! They said mean stuff to us!" After blowback from a cop killing another unarmed black person. Like holy shit, do straight white peoe gotta be at the front of the line for eternity? They bitch like crazy every time they're not.

I misread, I thought you meant what percentage of "cis" people, not what percentage of those that dislike the label.

In that case, I couldn't tell you. I can only speak for myself.

You think a very high percentage of cisgender people take umbrage with the fact that they're called "cisgender" but don't have any issues calling Elliot Page a man without qualifiers?

Human_Username posted...
That's the plan...? You come off as super bitter, I'm not sure if it's intentional, but it's not a good look.
Yeah, I've experienced my share of transphobia and don't see many people who would say, "I am a woman, not cisgender!" without proceeding to shit on trans people.

I assume that's due to cultural reasons, the trans community being seen as the "other". Unless you're referring to other cases, like "transit", but that's just because it's a more versatile prefix. You see "inter-" much more than "intra-", too.

If we are gonna have the term transgender, cisgender is simply the logical term to describe the opposite orientation.

I meant in other contexts. "Transatlantic" = across the atlantic ocean and so on. Transition itself was and is an average everyday vocabulary but there's no "cisition"

We all know you're trolling something fierce, but calling things basic labels like "cisgender", "white", or "straight" "discrimination" is gonna make it too obvious you're arguing in bad faith. Just a pro tip.

I call people whatever they want to be called, I dont care. All the trans people Ive ever known have been pretty easy going about it, and correct me if I say the wrong thing and I do better in the future.

Why do I have to be anything other than a he? All the trans people I know get to pick their pronouns. Why does it matter who is cis and who is trans, isnt the point is it doesnt matter?

also cisgender sounds like sisgender and I dont like it. I had no choice in the choosing

Cis is just ugly as a prefix. Generally, it's kind of redundant to use as well. If it's a case where the status of a trans person doesn't matter, then "men/women" would suffice. If the status of a trans person does matter, "men/women and trans men/women" would suffice. I cannot think of a discussion where it's particularly necessary to use to understand context.

my understanding is that we created the term "cis" because we needed a label for non-trans people and calling them "normal" is offensive to trans people. is that correct?
Yeah we needed a way to refer to non-transgender people more elegantly than saying "not transgender". "Normal" isn't just demeaning to trans people, it's also too vague, because if I say I'm cisgender you know exactly what I mean; if I say I'm normal it doesn't mean much unless you have more context.

Did people also get this upset over labels like "straight?"
