Mortal Kombat VS DC/MK9/10/11
If you count across games Baldurs gate 1/2 and Mafia 1/2

Every RTS and Tournament fighter ever made.

I might be with ya if the they actually innovated the gameplay at all. But "The game switched perspective at one point" isn't an innovation. It's quite common.

I mean Shadow of the Colossus is 16 years old. Had like 3 cutscenes with dialogue in the entire game and only like 5 characters, one of which is a horse and they managed to pull of a deeper story than TLOU2 and let you switch perspective to the "Antagonist" who arguable isn't even evil AND changed up the gameplay style for something that works thematically and as inverse for the general gamplay of the game (Which was groundbreaking gameplay at the time)

Man that was such a good game for the industry as a whole.

Choosing to be evil or playing as an evil character in a game is not the same as playing as an antagonist.

Choosing a fighter in a game is also not the same.

Sure if you don't count al the other games that already did the same stuff spanning over 20 years then it was very innovative I guess.

Also cars are a really cool brand new invention if you ignore the past 140 years.

I guess that's where we differ. I just accept things that are true.

Several of the games you listed do not have the same concept at all. Games like KOTOR, Dragon Age Origins and RTS/fighting games are completely irrelevant to what he is saying.

Playing two characters who are antagonistic to each other on this level and you play as both in an action game is pretty rare. Especially since each character is both the protagonist and antagonist depending on their perspectives and not just one is good and one is bad. The entire game is based around this personal conflict.

But you're someone who thinks Abby is a Designed by Committee character so you're probably just going to ignore it and start talking about Mortal Kombat.

A Way Out is slightly closer but those characters only try kill each other at the very end of the game. It's also a neat concept that isn't that common for coop games.

Yeah I really enjoyed the ending. It's interesting how some peoples interpretation of it can differ so much.

Some see it as a total downer. Ellie can't even play guitar anymore. But I saw it as a bittersweet ending. Ellie finds she can't play guitar which was her link with Joel. She spends her game feeling incredible guilt over shunning Joel. But near the end of the relationship she did let a lot of that resentment go and it made her happy. She has finally done the same thing with Abby. She is acknowledging her pain but is on a new path that she's in control of. She has learned the importance of letting go and that hate and revenge is not worth the sacrifice. You are never guaranteed any time back or any relationships broken over it.

there are a bunch of extras you can unlock after beating the game that can make it more engaging.

like, you can have infinite ammo, infinite durability for melee weapons, infinite crafting items, etc.

but one thing I really liked was the different filters that change the look of the game.

my favorite one was probably watercolor.
