Didn't realise Switch was still using the same one that Wii U and 3DS were using which was based on 20 year old tech going back to Windows 98.

Sounds like in the short term this won't actually change anything but it will allow them to add updates in the future. The Monster Hunter Rise demo is the 1st game that uses the new servers.
