I got zero problems with Alkaline Trio, but hes such a terrible fit in blink. His voice is a baritone too, so theres no contrast to Marks voice at all, the guy has no stage chemistry with Mark, and his guitar style (while great in Alkaline) sounds like hes trying to imitate Tom in Blink, and not doing a great job.

I wish Mark wouldve gone with the Owl City guy (like in his song Dementia) or the singer for Relient K, or heck even John Feldman of Goldfinger. Skiba was such a weird, bad pick.

but ya I agree, I went to a coupe live shows when they first picked him up and while the music was fine theres no banter or intermission joking between songs or anything. Took all the charm out of blinks live shows.

not a fan of any of the newer albums either

I assume that dude is probably super religious though? Since Relient K is one of those stealth-Christian rock bands (think Red, Skillet, etc.).

I feel like it might have worked 15 years ago but Skiba feels like hired help who isn't really into it and just there to get paid, and IMO what made blink great was Tom forcing Mark out of his comfort zone by wanting to try new things, but Mark just wants to play the hits and please the fans, he's way too self conscious.

To an extent maybe, but Tom jumped the shark. He stopped being about pushing pop punk in fun new directions and just became, a total nutball. Even self titled was a bit too artsy for me. Writing wise, Blink works best when Mark is the serious one and Tom is the fun one. And then they bounce off each other, with Tom having some songs thatre a bit more serious or reflective, and Mark having some that are more silly.

I think Tom kinda went off the deepend tbh and hes just not the same person anymore. And Mark cant capture that old blink lightning in a bottle without Tom.

Yeah Ive always been of the belief that Dude Ranch was actually their best work. Enema was their breakout album but stylistically its a departure from Dude Ranch, and not a great one.

It's the drumming I think. Scott is such a straight forward punk style drummer and travis barker, while incredibly talented, is stylistically very different.

Exactly. Ive never agreed with people that straight up say Travis is better than Scott. Its two totally different drumming styles, and Scott is actually really good in his own right.

Yeah, blink worked because neither Mark nor Tom were really anything particularly special on their own, but when they were together the way the sparked off each other and pushed each other out of their usual styles made them both better than they were individually.
