Yes, it's fine. I've found apartments through there and also a roommate when I needed one. You'll just meet with a realtor anyways.

I moved into a house with 3 other dudes I didn't know at all in a city I never lived in. It went really well and we were good buds until one of them kinda tried to kill me.

There are some that are legit, but ALWAYS Google the address first just in case. You might find it on another site already sold/rented/whatever.

Also never use your main/real email for contacting them.

I have used it successfully a few times. You just need to be observant for signs of a scam. Some signs include:
- No pictures included
- Pictures look too professional like stock images
- Vague description of location
- Price too good to be true
- Alternative payment arrangements (usually it's a pervert trying to get a girl to have sex with him for a room; almost happened to a friend of mine)
- Very poor spelling/grammar issues
- Emphasis on cash payments only

Avoiding that, you will usually find legit renters just looking for a roommate. Always ask for a meeting, or if moving from afar, schedule a phone call or zoom meeting to have a live conversation. Ask for fresh pictures of the room, not just what's on the posting to make sure it's still the same room. Lastly, ask for payment options. While cash payments are often easiest, they should be willing to consider checks or phone cash apps. If not, they are shady.
