When there is one or more passengers, then yeah, I can definitely see how it would make sense. But if you're just driving a car alone with nobody to transmit to or from? Should you wear a mask then? I'm just peering into other people's windows in traffic. Some are wearing masks, some aren't. Passengers don't seem to affect it.

This. I've done it a few times myself.

I don't get why people are so amazed by this

Sometimes I'm leaving a retail store with a mask on where I've touched things, and I'd rather not use my hands to pull my mask down and touch my face if I'm not driving very far

This may be silly may be excusable.

I saw people riding horses in a field earlier wearing masks. Now THAT is whack.

I'd generally prefer just to leave my mask on for the extra five minutes it takes to drive somewhere rather than keep taking it off and putting it back on. I wear a mask for 8 hours a day. The extra time isn't particularly bothersome.

Okay so background info, I live in New Zealand where there's generally no community transmission, and even one case (outside of quarantine) is considered a huge deal. On the flipside though, this also means there isn't much in the way of mask mandates - it's required on public transport but nowhere else (other than border facilities / quarantine of course).

On Sunday, it was announced there was a case in the region of NZ (but not outright the same local area) where I live.

I have not seen a single person wearing a mask in the time since, anywhere.
