has it always been like this and it's just getting the attention that it deserves as an health issue? or is it actually increasing (idk if that statement made sense)

There has always been a gigantic taboo around seeking psychological help. Thankfully, it's starting to break down a little bit.

Pretty much this.

It was ever present, just in the background. A lot of psychological problems were buried in previous times.

There's also the fact that we're in a pandemic and for those of us who are care about trying to reduce the spread, we're not hanging out with friends or going on dates, so it's lonely and hard because we're realizing we don't necessarily like ourselves when nobody's around. So yeah, therapists and mental health specialists have been seeing record numbers of patients recently. ^^

It's all the lead and chemicals in the vaccines. These inept parents should have used essential oils and their children could have been fine!

This as well as not being taught how to handle rejection and jealousy nor given boundaries for internet use and social media.

We're slowly getting rid of the mental health stigma.

That said, psychologists nowadays are way too eager to diagnose stuff on kids. My mom, a psychologist, has met several kids diagnosed with ADD and wouldn't you know it, most of the time they are just kids doing kid things with no underlying problems.

We've barely become accepting of mental illness in our society. We still have a long way to go to make all people feel comfortable opening up and getting the healthcare they need.

One contributing factor is more people bothering to get tested at all.

For decades it was not uncommon for households to cover up and dismiss potential red flags of inconvenient behavioral/mental disorders within the family to avoid outside judgement.

I would wager more people are mentally ill than "normal". Humanity has always been pretty crazy.
