I can see now it's kind of like "what's the point. just make a regular game". Some of the game is just taking photos, but a lot of it is also solving puzzles so you can take photos of specific pokemon you couldn't otherwise or taking photos of them with special poses (it's a score attack game too, so special poses give bonuses). You have a couple different items you can throw, one being apples, and you can use those to lead pokemon to somewhere they might perform a unique action, for instance.
