But that is a completely fair take. Last topic had a few debates going whether certain characters are actual rivals (for both sides). It's appears there isn't a hard line for these when comparing to Squall/Seifer or Kain/Cecil.

By far the best FF4 port. FF4DS was just too crippled by idealism.

FF4DS is meant for people who already played the original / gba / psp version. It is not meant as a definitive edition. It's far worse in this regard than FF7 remake which can kind of be enjoyed as a first experience of FF7 but FF4DS pretty much demands that you played the original.

All FF4 DS really needed, is for augments to be removable and transferable. As is, you really need a spreadsheet of "put [augment] on [guy] here" to get the most of it (or even passable competency at it) over the three runs you're limited to for some inexplicable reason.

You should also automatically get augments from characters instead of having to give them augments to get theirs.

Like me. I love FF8. I agree the plot twist is dumb but it has some of my favorite moments in any FF game ever.

This is how I feel about Cloud and Sephiroth, there's absolutely nothing resembling a rivalry in FFVII and it's entirely an invention of things from after release like the compilation. Hell, I'm pretty sure Sephiroth's creepy obsession with stalking Cloud started in Kingdom Hearts of all things.
