I'm afraid I don't understand the question. A religion attributes the power to something beyond the control of man. So assuming that the faith is not one in which the priests hold the power than the question of moral right and wrong is simply beyond what a man can dictate and, thusly, the question is irrelevant. People, especially in the west, follow the Christian faith which holds things like 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you' and the ten commandments as paramount so if the pope came out and said it was OKAY to go out and murder infidels and he will absolve you of your sins for a payment than the pope has deviated from the faith and should not be listened to. If the Christian faith is, somehow, not true all that really means is that we must align ourselves to the actual truth of right and wrong. But said actual truth is still beyond the hands of man to define.

Then I would say that their religion is wrong. I am, in no way, saying that every religion is correct. It's entirely possible that the true religion isn't even a human one. However I am saying that I do believe that morality is not defined by the decisions of man, an objective right and wrong does exist, and it is defined in/by the realm of the divine and, thusly above human influence.

Okay. And? Seems fairly standard military practice for up until recently. If anything a big generous since it allows for troops to return home unashamed for various reasons, divine instructions to not pillage cities that surrender peacefully, and instructions to not raze it even if they do fight back, and instructions against deforestation for a siege. Considering the Israelites constantly struggles with idolitry throughout the Bible it almost seems like the problem is they didn't follow this advice.

Oh wait. You are looking at this from a viewpoint in which things like war crimes are not a relatively recent notion and in which things like harm unto civilians are considered abhorrent especially due to media swarms. Even then you're sort of ignoring the key fact that these were instructions given to the Israelites for when they went to war in the ancient era. Well, don't wanna be a hypocrite so if I ever find myself outnumbered against a bunch of Hivites and the Lord delivers a victory to me and I lay siege to their city with catapults I'll be sure to not cut down the fruit-bearing trees to construct them and, when we successfully take the city with our ancient technology triumphing over modern weaponry for some reason I shall completely destroy them and, just to make you happy and follow your belief of what this means, I shall engage in non-consensual sexual relationships with the buildings as per the instructions given here ignoring that I am not a Israelite, this is not the ancient era, and that Deuteronomy is not a core aspect of Christianity but a hold-over from it's Jewish roots.
