We were mushroom hunting, I picked that one up and said "look I found a big one!" And my friend who knows more about mushrooms goes "dude that's a death cap you shouldn't just pick up random mushrooms. But hold on lemme get a pic before you toss it." I did play up the awkwardness of the expression a bit though because if there's one thing I'm good at, it's being awkward!

You can always tell when Sunny has been drinking. I feel bad for his wife having to live with a greasy abusive alcoholic like that.

To be fair, if he's holding a death cap in full bloom, it's pretty deep in fall. He's obviously wet AF, and that windbreaker looks like 10 sil. He's in 40ish degree rain in that pic, and that's hypothermia bait as long as he's standing still.

I've been on more than one hike in fall to forage liberty caps and shit can go from a nice 65 and sunny to the 40 degree rain that can kill a hiker in a matter of hours depending on altitude. If he's more than a mile or 2 from the trailhead in that pic, there is a non zero chance he's in danger there.

For the record, I realized I quoted Whiskey twice. I'm posting from my phone and it won't let me edit it out.

10 sil will totally keep the wet out, but it's going to do fuck all to keep the cold wet on it from taking all of your body heat away in spades if you're not layered right underneath it. I keep a great northwinds 10 sil poncho in my hiking kit that can double as a tarp shelter in a pinch, but TDC already looks like a half-drowned cat in that picture to begin with.

Anyway, it was definitely cold and drizzly that day. 40's is probably about right. I didn't feel too cold (had layers on underneath) and didn't feel at risk of hypothermia, but that's far from the riskiest thing I did around that time anyway.
