Likely died a horrible, terrifying and painful death which ends up defining the legacy you leave behind. Being a name on a list of victims and often barely more than a footnote in the story of the killer himself. Which is absolutely awful for the family to deal with.

Potentially photos of your dead body and house eventually shared in crime novels and documentaries.

That's not even getting into the scenarios where the victims are blamed for getting themselves into certain situations to begin with.

All because some selfish bastard robbed you of your life before it was time.

It's just depressing and terrifying thought all around really.

Well if you hope to be known after death, you're likely to last longer on this list than otherwise.

Yeah this topic was inspired by the Night Stalker documentary.

I dunno if Annie Chapman would have ever thought people would still know her as a murdered prostitute 132 years after her death.

It's a pretty sad way to be remembered. Especially since these were all people with their own complicated lives, feeling and thoughts that are usually never really known.

You could be murdered by a not infamous killer. Nobody will care aside from your loved ones and it'll still be painful for them anyway. Your death was probably still painful but you're dead so it doesn't really matter.

You could be murdered by a killer bear. You'll be remembered as a guy who got killed by the infamous killer bear. Documentaries about this bear will be made. Your death was probably terrifying and painful and your 5 year old daughter now screams when someone presents her with a teddy.

You could be killed by a killer rabbit. Your death was funny and cute.

The best part about the capture of The Night Stalker was him running into East L.A and getting his ass whooped.

Agreed. Imagine if your killer didn't even make the news paper. What a way to go.

Remember the Ariel Castro kidnappings?

He didn't kill but got away with his shit for years.

How many other crimes have people gotten away with?

Jeffrey Dahmer is one of those that really freaks me out though. There's an interview with him on youtube and he comes across as just a genuine nice guy. I wouldn't have hesitated a second to trust him.

That's the scariest part, IMO. How can a guy who did such horrific things sound so innocent?

He was murdered in prison by another inmate, and apparently he didn't even try to fend off the attack. Didn't cry out, didn't beg for mercy, just took the beating and accepted death.

Dude was fucked up.

Serial killers are never easy to read about for me but GOD, that man was all sorts of fucked in the head. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it really.

I have the Encyclopedia of Serial Killers and Fish's entry has the xray pictures of the nails he put in his dick. What a well-adjusted man he was.

Ever since that case, I often wonder how many kidnapping cases like that are happening right now. How many missing people are stuck in some basement somewhere?

Yeah there's definitely a lot of fucked up evil out there. Being kidnapped and held by some sicko is perhaps even worse than death.

A whole lot of fucked up cult stories too. Listened to the Ant Hill Kids story on Last Podcast on the Left recently. So fucked up. Especially for the poor babies and kids born into it who never stood a chance.

I still have a morbid fascination with this sort of stuff but I find it way more depressing compared to when I was younger. Just thinking how these are just regular people who unfortunately were encountered the wrong person at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Maybe it's due to the influence of the internet but being executed by cartels seem even worse than some serial killers.

Dahmer still comes across as creepy even if he didn't do those things.

Kemper though. Even knowing what he did, I would still be friends with that guy. Hell the agents that interviewed him and the guards for his prison talk about how they like they guy.

This is why I find true crime fan ppl deeply strange, especially for stories where the killer is caught. I can kinda understand mystery stories that were never solved, but people glamourising known murderers is pretty odd

I think it's fine learning their story but yeah there's nothing to glamourise. These people are all losers who lash out and want to feel strong and powerful. But they're weak people who only target people when they're vulnerable. They're all cowards deep down.

This. As heinous as their crimes are, people will remember them. They will rarely remember the victims.

You should watch The Lovely Bones. Feel like it tries to rebuke the shadow that is cast over the victim of a killer and acknowledge the victim's life.
