President-elect Joe Biden unveiled a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan Thursday that included $1,400 checks for most Americans.

On top of $600 provided in the most recent COVID-19 bill, the checks would bring the total to the $2,000 that Biden has called for.

With Democrats in control of the presidency and Congress, the overall plan has a good chance for passage. However, the process may take more time than many Democratic leaders hope. The checks are part of a complex and layered plan that includes increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour, expanding paid leave for workers, and increasing tax credits for families with children.

I agree with those policies, but can't they be done separately? Why can't they vote on the $1400 check, then the other stuff a different time? No wonder the GOP is so salty. They think $15 minimum wage is socialism (when it's really cost of living and inflation)

Didn't the original relief bill have an anti-piracy clause or some shit in it?

America's obsession with putting unrelated clauses into bills is very, very weird.

Yeah I was going to mention that, but forgot the examples. GOP tried to limit video game streamers in the second one

Both sides did this kind of crap. Or did you forget the provision in the $600 one that would have banned streaming (yeah they say its "illegal steaming" but let's be honest, it's all streaming.)

What are we going to do to ensure that the cost of living doesnt rise to accommodate the increased minimum wage? This happens every time.

Why are there no talks about limiting rent prices? Why are there no talks about careers? I dont want anything an hour, I want a salary with benefits.

What's wrong with expanding paid leave? It's directly covid-related

these are all to stimulate the economy, though. its not even similar to putting in anti-piracy bullshit and also giving money to corporations to make the economy even worse

Anyone in politics who still believes in trickle down economics needs to be voted out or to step down.

just let it happen. kinda screwed when inflation rises with the rent.
increase in mininum wage doesn't change it (already close to 12-13$ an hour within the town) including entry level.

these things both have been drastically increasing. inflation is happening. the minimum wage hasn't gone up.
