Android is owned by Google, which means Google has all of your phone data. No thanks, dawg.

As if Apple isn't every bit as much a Big Brother super corporation?

Apple's entire business model isn't spying on you and selling targeted ads to you.

Do you use any of Google's products or services? Search engine, Chrome, Maps, Gmail, etc?

This is a ridiculous argument. Any ISP has access to your data and if properly warranted, must provide those records the the US government. Security is an illusion. Nobody builds a house with no door. Your ISP, phone service provider and even the government already has access to your data. Considering their shady business models, I trust Apple less than all of them.

Almost none. Maps and YouTube are the only ones I haven't completely ditched yet, but I'l probably ditch YouTube eventually.

So then Google already has your data by your logic. So what are we really talking about here?

Maps is set to only use location data when I use it. I don't use any Google apps on my phone other than Maps.

Technically correct as it's not the ENTIRE business model just maybe half of it.

Anyway, my transition off of Google is almost complete. There are better alternatives to YouTube now. That's the big one for me.

TC, the article was saying the opposite.

The researchers found that Android has a similar setup to iOS with one crucial difference. Android has a version of Complete Protection that applies before the first unlock. After that, the phone data is essentially in the AFU state. But where Apple provides the option for developers to keep some data under the more stringent Complete Protection locks all the timesomething a banking app, say, might take them up onAndroid doesn't have that mechanism after first unlocking.
With both, they work the same way. When first turned on after being powered off, everything is fully locked, but after you open your phone once, a lot of things get less secure. iOS allows developers to keep some things in the full protection area, while android does not.

There's also this
Tushar Jois, another Johns Hopkins PhD candidate who led the analysis of Android, notes that the Android situation is even more complex because of the many device makers and Android implementations in the ecosystem. There are more versions and configurations to defend, and across the board users are less likely to be getting the latest security patches than iOS users.
Google has done a lot of work on improving this, but the fact remains that a lot of devices out there arent receiving any updates, Jois says. Plus different vendors have different components that they put into their final product, so on Android you can not only attack the operating system level, but other different layers of software that can be vulnerable in different ways and incrementally give attackers more and more data access. It makes an additional attack surface, which means there are more things that can be broken.

Though for the main subject of it, there isn't much difference and that flaw can be fixed if you can shut down your phone before it gets seized. Since once they turn it on, until it is unlocked once, everything is in the secure area.
