...to have a focus on presentation similar to turn-based JRPGs?

I'm playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which is the first turn-based JRPG that I've played since Persona 5, and it's kinda jarring going from stuff like DOS2, PoEII, Wasteland 3, etc. to this, and it made me try to remember the last time I've played a turn-based WRPG that felt similar in presenting its story.

Maybe as far as AAA WRPGs go, but there are a lot of indie RPGs that take a more JRPG approach to design.

So many Western Indie games are very much like that. Just hit up Steam and most of the games tagged JRPG are actually made in the West.

I remember being interested in Child of Light when it first came out, but I wasn't giving digital games a chance back then, so I ended up forgetting about it.

What did you spoil? There's a ton of stuff that surprises you, especially since there's multiple routes.

What he said. I was spoiled on some Undertale stuff too, but still found things that surprised me when I finally played it.

Plus, it's a game so story is only half the enjoyment. Its gameplay is pretty good. Tho some fights your reaction time has to have very little margin of error to get through.

Oh, I know. Wish I could help outside of also suggesting indies because I too need to broaden my horizons, I'm just really poor.

I remember enjoying Dashboard recently though, granted that's RPG Maker indy. Then there are the Epic Battle Fantasy games that take a lot of cues from JRPGs.
