yeah, it got overtaken by a bunch "indie" sadboy and quirkygirl types, who are now corporate but still act like they are indie

what "indie sadboy" and "quirkygirl" artists have come out and achieve any kind of mainstream success to kill rock?

In the mainstream yeah, but that doesn't mean the genre is dead or that good rock music isn't being made in the underground you just have to go look for it.

Somebody showed me a band not too long ago and I swear they sounded just like Led Zeppelin, and they are pretty current/new. I sadly can't remember their name at the moment.

Similarly I heard a band recently that sounded just like Duran Duran, can't remember their name though.

Also they definitely aren't popular sadly

Greta Van Fleet sucks so bad. I like Zeppelin but just like, stop trying to do the Zeppelin thing. It doesn't work when someone else does it. I don't know why but it just doesn't.

In the mainstream, yes, it has disintegrated. Underground you can finds tons of amazing talent. Of course, I can never follow the rabbit hole to good rock music because I find something like this> https://youtu.be/DkpjZXgetDU and get way off track until I end up at either endless playlists of videogame boss music or absolute chaos such as https://youtu.be/JqNfAHTdPkk

I feel like not just rock music, but the concept of the band itself has lost the attention of mainstream listeners as well. With the exception of BTS, every artist that's popular right now is a solo artist. Even Coldplay's last album didn't do very well, and they've never had any problem selling records

You're right, 'the band' is really at the mercy of whether or not a song actually fits a standard for how it actually sounds on the media vs what people actually have there as notes

The process involved in recording music today is very disjointed so it does have some effect on the pulse compared to something from before

I know that sounds all cliche or whatever, but that's my biggest complaint about it. There IS alot of talent out there, but there's just this complete package completely missing that I don't think we;ll see for awhile tbh in terms of guitar there are alot of new backdrops for solo music.. people definitely are creating new sounding things, but I feel alot of that has to do with the niche solo world and metal mainly

The biggest thing that I see happening rn is crossovers between electronic and the band (more indie/ v. wave) and a bunch more RnB and Soul/Neo-Soul type bands. It's not bad at all, just there's plenty more missing with the fall of mainstream. It feels weird.. like niches inside of niches.

I agree with what someone said about most of the popular stuff being fake "indie" inspired sound now. I don't really know if that means rock is dead though. I think it's just harder to place as rock aurally if you think rock is all about having electric guitars and big solos, which seems like the mistake people commonly make. And there's also more competition out there from other genres that have developed and evolved and gained in popularity.

I do like me some good electric guitar solo shreddin rock but looking back a lot of that stuff sucks, just like I dislike a lot of the indie/alternative stuff of today. But it's easier for favorites to stand out in older stuff that's had more time to simmer.
