What is the WORST Status Effect in the FF Series?

Despite many of us being fans of the series and not knowing what Aura is, it was an overwhelming amount of votes ahead for Haste. Haste is the best status effect in Final Fantasy.

Now let's see what the worst one is. I feel this one will be much closer. Please remember that certain status effects could not be removed via Magic (eg, sleep/confuse).

Best Minigame: Triple Triad via FF8
Worst Minigame: Dodging Lightning via FF10
Best Gameplay Mechanics: Set classes and (learnable) abilities via FF4/6/9
Worst Protagonist: Vaan via FF12
Best Cid: Cid Highwind via FF7
Worst Dungeon: The Great Crystal via FF12
Best Soundtrack: OST via FF7
Worst/Most Annoying/Difficult Optional Boss/Enemy: Absolute Virtue via FF11
Best Story: Yasumi Matsuno via FFTactics
Worst Story: Motomu Toriyama via FF13 series
Best Director: Yoshinori Kitase via FF6, FF7, FF8, and FF10.
Worst (playable) Character: Hope via FF13
Best Villain: Kefka via FF6
Worst Job: Berserker via FF5/6/TA
Best Opening Cutscene/Section: Liberi Fatali via FF8
Worst Plot Twist: Plot Twist via FF8
Best Limit Break/Trance/Overdrive: Omnislash/Cloud via FF7
Worst Translation: Words and Phrases via FF7
Best Status Effect: Haste via Multiple FFs

You sound salty about Aura not winning tbh.
It's hard for something to be "best in the series" when it only appears once, versus being a regularly recurring thing that becomes centric to most strategies

haha I'm a little salty. But the democracy has spoken. Haste is definitely the best status effect.

Honestly though, Haste deserves it. Aura being in one game and being broken in one game may show why it was never included in future games. That and the fact that how limit breaks worked changed in future games.

Edit: I read the second part of your post too late. You literally said it.

It was hands down the best in its game, that's that's sure! I voted haste simply because it's in almost every game, and in every game it becomes centric to almost every build.
Something that prevalent can't be ignored.
If we had voted for "most overpowered" aura likely would have taken it.

Status effects in general arent so common anymore in newer FFs. But essentially it's any thatd make you lose a turn so stop, confuse, sleep petrify, and death spells(dunno why that's not here).

But if I had to pick one, maybe petrify. In some games , I think 10? Theres a annoying second effect where if a petrified character is hit by a physical atk they'd not just die. They'd shatter and you cant even swap out to another character then.

I think "worst" needs clarification.
Worst to deal with?
Worst to inflict on enemies?

Fixed my post.

The status effect Confuse is worst... as if your between turns and the confused member attacks a party member, it generally leads to wipes if he's the strongest

Petrify is definitely the worst. Confuse is a close second but being confused is almost always better in every situation

Whole party petrified = game over
Dying while petrified = literally being deleted from the game
Petrified = you won't auto recover

And you're basically screwed if you last standing party member is petrified. Even if the last party member is confused they have a chance to recover.

I agree. Say your turn order is:
Boss/Enemy > Melee attacker > melee > mage > healer

If the boss confuses a melee attacker right off, at least one team mate is likely dying that turn. Sure it's easy to cure, but it wastes MULTIPLE turns dealing with it.
Wasted turn 1: one person doesn't get to act, instead harms your team
Wasted turn 2: someone (likely your mage, if they didn't die. Your healer worst case scenario) has to attack the confused
Wasted turn 3: someone has to revive/heal the fallen team mate

Now you're at risk because the healer wasn't healing, and could be facing a part wipe or spending even MORE turns recovering.

I knew this would come up, so I say Heat from FF9

It ain't too common, but fucks you up if you don't predict it, or don't have immunity

Being KOed for taking a action is what it does. A enemy could hit you with it after you selected your action, anddddd your dead

It's basically Stop but deadlier

I get why haste is good in the CTB games and the first 3, but it sounds worthless in the ATB games, tbh.

Anyways, for this one, petrify is the worst. Confuse is a close second though.

This. Confuse is nowhere near as bad in FF games compared to other games. Berserk in Fire Emblem is far worse. I had an Assassin get berserkd and Insta-kill a party member. Unlike FF, I dont get that unit back EVER unless I restart. No revives

I voted doom because I thought most useless to use.

Doom is worthless against the enemy, but can be tricky to deal with occasionally. Confuse is probably the single worst since your characters can waste unique items or kill each other.

Confuse/Charm is by far the worst status effect in Personas and the original 4 .Hack// games though, like holy fuck actual cancer in those lol

Stop, imo.
Usually can't be cured by remedies, you need to use dispel and in some games like IX you get a game over if everyone in your party gets afflicted by it

While confuse sucks when its used against you, it can be a lot of fun to use in an enemy. It at least had a purpose in the game.

I know it wont win, but I voted for mini/toad. It just comes off as pointless in most games, except for FF3, where mini is featured quite prominently.

I really wanted to vote for this too because it's truly terrible. But Petrify is even worse. Usually it's at least easier to cure than Stop though. Confuse is annoying but very easy to cure.

Instant Death PLUS they attack your own team, so it's Death+Charm. Oh, and you need a special item to revive them (Revivify, vs Remedy or Phoenix Down). And the World of Ruin is filled to the brim with enemies who love that status.

ffx is the one example! it did (i think) 25% of your total health every tick. that's kinda how i think it should be -- because you don't just get poisoned and set it on the backburner. the whole point of poison is that it is very very bad for you.

taking (barely) triple-digit damage when you have 6k HP is more like having a mosquito bite. and not a dangerous mosquito bite. just one you scratched maybe a little too hard.

Ive played through FF6 numerous times, and the only location in the game where I remember it even being a used much Daryls Tomb. And even then, a zombified character will randomly attack allies and enemies alike, so it sometimes works in your favor.

Dont enemies also still target the zombified character as well, making them a randomly-attacking tank?

believe so.

so you could theoretically give sabin a pair of fire claws and everyone else gets flame shields, and suddenly he's an immortal tank that occasionally throws a heal to the team in between enemy kills.
