I think someone has been telling him to push this whole "voter fraud, stolen election" thing. Someone he trusts has been Grima Wormtongueing him. Someone who wants to watch the world burn and has seized Trump's ego and ignorance for puppet strings that he can yank in any direction he chooses.

I think its just Trump knows he's screwed if he leaves office, so he's just going "in for a penny, in for a pound" about it. He's smart enough to know he's done once he stops being president, that he hasn't really been held accountable for anything yet, and he has a significant amount of his base, as well as prominent media personalities clinging to everything he says as fact.

You're being way too generous giving Trump an out here for something that's exactly what Trump would do in this situation. Heck, he said during his debates with Biden if he lost the election it was rigged. Heck, he said during the debates with Hilary Clinton that if he lost the election was rigged.
