After the tragic death of Chadwick, who made history with his black panther role, the franchise is at a crossroads.

there is not going to be a new black panther, its too soon and it would be bad taste to recast the role, it would be sort of like re-casting joker right after Heath ledgers death.

the franchise shouldnt end though. Marvel has signaled it wont. So who should be the new central character?

here are some options:

/mbaku : arguably the strongest wakandan after tchalla himself. He did the right thing on black panther .

/ shuri: blood relationship to king tchalla, she is skilled and she even redesigned the panther suit. She could make a new suit for herself

/Bucky aka winter soldier: yes, he is an outsider and not a wakandan, but he spent some time in wakanda, he knew tchalla and shuri and they trusted him. He kind of seems out of place in the marvel universe now that he wont be the new captain America.

/the falcon: he could take the mantle of black panther and give bucky the captain America role. But he is not known or trusted by wakandans and there is no plot justification for this, thus making this the worst choice of the 4 I feel.

Remember when stan lee cjanged tjr name to black leopard because he didnt want people thinking black panther was associated with the black panthers.

there's likely going to be a new Black Panther, but T'Challa's character will be put to rest until there's maybe some kinda reboot somewhere along the line.

anyway, even though I don't necessarily want him to be the next Black Panther, I'd like to see M'Baku become the face of the franchise (after Chadwick Boseman, of course).

They should recast.

If there had been a Black Panther trilogy, I'd say it would be fair to quietly kill the character off off-screen and retire him out of respect for Chadwick Boseman. But seeing as he's Marvel's first starring Black male superhero, and he only got one film in which he was the lead, I think they should recast and continue on. DC brought the Joker back twice since Heath Ledger's passing.

The world needs T'Challa, not his successor.

at this point, i'd probably rebrand the Black Panther line into "Wakanda", and develop as many of the characters as i could, without any of them taking over as Black Panther.

iirc, Disney+ is gonna have an animated series taking place in Wakanda called "Iwj"

edit: nevermind, it's apparently gonna be set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria

why? Historically he is one of the better options. He knows wakanda, he was liked and trusted by y halla and shuri, he was fixed by wakandan tech, etc
