Idk what the hell I agreed to at the start. I didn't read any of it, but it was long. Could've signed away my big toes for all I know.

Gonna be returning this shit tomorrow. Prime example of taking three steps back for one step forward. I get that some people enjoy the accomplishment of beating games this unnecessarily hard, but fuck. So much clutter and worthless items with no direction. Enemies are basically bullet sponges with huge damage.

I don't understand how some people enjoy this type of playstyle. It's so unrewarding. The menu layout looks and functions like something from the PS1 era, too. Some Japanese games seem to think clutter means more versatility when it's really just distracting and pointless.

It's an acquired taste, in the case of Sekiro it's a taste one can not acquire until one has undergone the process known as gitting gud. The amount of struggle you seem to be experiencing seems like it very well stem from not fully understanding how to play the game yet, which is understandable as there aren't many samurai rhythm games out there, but once you understand how to play (usually after a certain boss) it immediately goes from seeming nearly impossible to tough but fair.

Now, I understand most of your points but you keep saying clutter and I simply cannot figure out what you mean. Elaborate please?

Quick items that do precisely dick and prompts that try to get the introductory aspects out of the way without showing how they're used. It's very typical of these types of games. Monster Hunter is another big offender.

what items are you talking about?

some help you get more money, some help you deal more damage, some help you avoid detection, etc.

There's no need for them. Just add in an upgrade or two and be done with the constant reusing of these things for maybe 20 seconds of subpar difference. It's just constant handicaps that shouldn't even be there.

Which I would do if the bosses and such weren't such a pain in the ass to deal with. But the game pretty much forces you to keep tabs on all this just to slightly better your odds instead of enjoying the game. Ghosts of Tsushima was SO much better.

I can't think of any item that is useless, ash is broken af and ceramic shards are good for luring AND can take a jumping enemy out of the air and stun them. The rest either enhance your attributes, increase gains from killing things, or heal something. Which items? Also, Hanbei shows you how everything works, how to construct a proper response to any enemy attack...

Who is Hanbei? The sculptor? The guy didn't explain much until I died a thousand times and was forced back to his hut. Which, what the fuck? What a lazy mechanic. Sending you back beyond previous save points just for dying instead of actually teaching you.

idk, I only got about halfway into the game, but outside of the healing stuff, I never used any of the other items, but I recognize that we all have our own experiences.

I disagree about Ghost of Tsushima being better, though.

Yeah I get it. I'm also using this to vent my frustrations, so expect me to be a little unreasonable.

First things first, don't try to bum rush everything and expect easy results like any other game, souls games punish you for that shit.

The game is centered around the parry. They want you to deflect attacks and increase your opponent's posture. You can't keep spamming r1 and hope to win (well you can in some soulsborne games, but that requires a specific build).

I'm terrible at parrying. It's like I'm always too soon or too late. The window seems super small.

He's down the other path from the dilapidated temple, he contains all the initial tutorials and is great to practice deflect timing. As for the other thing...I don't recall that ever happening to me lol, what does he tell you?

Yeah after I died and got sent back to the same shrine like three or four times it booted my ass back to the sculptor where he apparently gave me information that he didn't feel like sharing the first time around, such as unlocking my equipment slots. After that I said fuck it.

Well there is a point where everything just clicks.

I had a lot of frustration too and couldn't figure out what was wrong, but once I beat Gyobu everything fell into place and the rest of the game was so addicting.
