I was hoping i wasn't going to have to change any results around but i'm going to have to, to make these last few for the year fit.

Putting this game under this now:
29. Beat a game with comedy as a central theme
Zombie Derby: Pixel Survival

So that today's game can go here:
7. Beat a game in a series you've already played some of
Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood
-

If i move onto the third Enigmatis game tomorrow then i'll have to do yet more shuffling come the end of it.
36/57

Hmmm, if i want to get to my goal of 75% i've got to beat 7 games in 3 weeks Thank heck for all the casual games i own!

37. Beat a game you'd dropped or had a long hold on
Scribblenauts

I must've played this for a little bit way back when I got it then just put it down and forgotten all about it. I got the urge to give it another go after seeing an amusing speedrun of Super Scribblenauts. It's alright, despite the terrible controls. The amount of times Maxwell walked off a cliff because the camera started to pan just as I was about to tap an object... maddening. The music is great though, I didn't remember that at all.

I'll throw a few suggestions down since you asked, but no worries if none are taken aboard.

For genres, maybe turn Sports into Sports/Racing? They often go together as game genres and sports seems pretty limited as is. And maybe consider adding a Visual Novel, Simulation/Management or Survival category or something to keep things fresh? This might just be my own biases talking and I should branch out more!

Some of the themes feel kinda similar to each other too imo, like there's a ton of overlap between horror+supernatural. If you combined them you could fit another theme in, no idea what though. And for demographics, I think an LGBTQ+ lead challenge could be good, but I guess that might be too narrow a category? IDK. Maybe one for a lead with physical or mental health issues too, given the 'demographics' name of the section.

This bugs the hell out of me. Sports games are not the same as Racing games and should remain as separate genres. If you're going to put them together then you may as well put JRPG and Visual Novel together too as they have very similar gameplay to each other
More genre options are better than less.

I'd make the same suggestions as the additions i made to my own list. True, i didn't actually get to use any of the new challenges because i wanted to do the default ones first. They were just for if a miracle happened and i actually managed to hit my goal of 75% completion in 2021 (i didn't).

54. Beat a game featuring the voice of an actor/actress who is best known for movie roles.
55. Beat a game that features talking (earth) animals.
56. Beat a game in the Top 10 for a particular system on GameFAQs.
57. Beat a game someone else in this topic has beaten.

Hopefully gonna do this for 2022, but played a lot of games I spent tons of hours in and never beat, and read some books. Just dreading rhythm and sports still.

Maybe "Rhythm game" could be changed to "Music game". All rhythm games are music games but not all music games are rhythm games. It would just allow a bit of flexibility for people who don't play rhythm games.

Good suggestions! tbh I wouldn't even bat an eye if someone put racing under the sports category, so I could add it. I don't really want to add a VN category because they aren't games but in all seriousness I feel like the other genres can be stretched a lot, like you could count Dark Souls for jRPG if you're not into "traditional" ones, but there's not a lot of leeway on if something is a VN or not. I'm obviously biased here but that's my mindset on that, I would be open to fusing the RPG categories and/or shooter categories and adding some new ones though, like simulation.

Unfortunately, I think LGBTQ+ lead is too limiting of a category at the moment, but maybe someday it won't be! Physical or Mental health issues has some potential though, because you really could count a lot of things in there (like amnesia, etc.)

wut

anyway, as you mentioned with the Rhythm category, the flexibility is good for those who don't like racing games or sports games to still be able to participate. I'd rather the genres be as open as possible, and just like with VNs, I think racing is pretty limiting as it's own category. Also the number stays at 52 as that is how many weeks there are in a year.

At least that way we can make notes on if someone's beaten a game that's still in our own backlogs.
