I just got a raise. From $14 to $15 because i just made a year in the company. Now I just got promoted and the position is supposed to pay $16.50 in total.
The books/payroll lady is saying I have to work 90 days first @ $15.25 then i get the $16.50 im supposed to.
Is this legal? Im going to be doing the job for 3 months unless i mess it up. How can they not pay me the full amount and just .$25 cents of it?

Sounds legal to me. If they were making you work more hours and not paying you for them, that would be a different story.

I had the same thing last year, got part of my raise right away and then the rest after 90 days.

That does seem a bit sketchy, but it might be because you just got a raise too. Would the promotion have only brought you up to 15.50 if you hadnt already gotten the raise?

I just got a dollar to put me at 15. Im not sure what this promotion would have put me at had i not gotten the previous dollar. I should contact her and talk to her about it more. The meeting we had was kind of rushed and i didnt get to ask questions or anything.

Yes i did without thinking it through. I was supposed to be in a meeting when she called me into the back to talk to me about the promotion.

"Loophole" is a strong word for this. They offered to pay x amount and TC accepted. It may not be industry standard or in good faith, but there's nothing iffy about the legality of it.
