A coronavirus outbreak at a Costco store in Yakima County has infected 145 employees, and health officials say the rapid increase in cases at the store is similar to a "superspreader event" in which multiple people are infected at the same time. The findings were released Tuesday by the Yakima County Health District after store-wide testing at the Costco in Union Gap. All 145 employees that have tested positive are in isolation or quarantine, but the store itself remains open, officials said. The store employs a total of 383 people. Yakima County public health officials say the number of COVID-19 cases at the store shot up quickly, from 68 on Thursday to 145 by Monday. And officials said the number of infections could go even higher. As Costco continues its site-wide testing, we anticipate the number of cases to continue to go up over the next few days as results are received," said Melissa Sixberry, Yakima County's director of disease control The store is now implementing recommendations from the health district to slow or stop the spread of the virus, so it was allowed to stay open, said Lilian Bravo, director of Public Health Partnerships for Yakima County.

Yikes maybe this is that UK mutation of covid.

Blows my mind a store can remain open when 30% if your employees are off.

Their lobby must be too strong. These are the same stores that got declared essential. While mom and pop stores had to close when shut downs happened.

Stores have stopped closing just because of infected employees. They don't even necessarily clean. They just work the healthy ones to death while the sick sit at home without pay

Yeah this is a perfect example as to why the liability shield the Republicans are pushing for is an absolutely terrible idea. There's no way nearly 40% of your staff (and climbing!) end up infected without incompetence (at best) or actual malice (at worst) on your end.

This is a pretty bad look for Costco as well, I'd be surprised if heads didn't roll.
