It's easy to get worked up about the injustice and imbalance of the criminal justice system rather than focusing on innocence or guilty. You focus on the insane charges, racial injustice, class injustice, the relative power of prosecutors and police vs defendants and defense attorneys, etc and on securing due process and the least worst outcome for the defendant in the face of all that.
I've learned that regardless of guilt or innocence, when the criminal justice system sets its sights on you, you're 95% of the way to being screwed, your life is already permanently worse.
