Good question. I imagine the 'worst protagonist' poll skewed more heavily towards the story / writing side of things (at least that's what I based my own vote on), so I'm inclined to lean more towards combat for worst party member.

But there are other dishonorable mentions like Gau and Hope (but he got much better later, at least).

This is solid. Honestly though it's just any character that is playable, even if only briefly (eg Beatrix FF9), that you think is just an absolutely terrible character, by your own standard.

It should be obvious but not everyone will agree with others' nominations. I personally really like Vincent and Amarant but someone in this topic clearly does not think those are the best.

If he doesn't come back to nominate, I will consider those 2 his nominations

I'm not going by gameplay, but the characters I disliked the most. Steiner gets bonus points for that awful grating sound effect they used for his armor clanging around all the time-- that shit made my ears bleed.

My nominations:

Relm. Specifically for the SNES version, because Sketch will literally crash the game. Control is nice and she's got a high native magic stat, but magic stat is meaningless when that can be esper-leveled to absurd levels on all units and Gogo's better for Control anyways. Worse than Umaro.

Meliadoul - Yes, even worse than Mustadio and Malak. Gained at about the same time as TGCid who dwarfs her completely, she has zero AoE, and she's poop for Zodiac bosses and monsters since her specialty is shattering gear.

Lulu - You heard me right. Yuna, Kimarhi, and Rikku are all better non-physical attackers and she's slow as shit. Only good for early game when you're fighting an elemental.

Vincent is great gameplay-wise until late disk 2

If you skip or overlook the added cut + deathblow + sniper CR combo then sucks to be you I guess

No way is she worse than them. She has 100% breaks that hit 100% of the time. Malak can't hit for shit and hit's for f'n nothing. Zero way she's worse than Malak. Who is fighting monsters in this game?

Bards are Beneficial and stay in the back
Special classes are special (except for Malak)

Amarant is not at all useless. Kaiser Knuckles + Bracer will allow him to do absurd damage with his normal attack. Revive, Chakra, Aura, and No Mercy each have their uses. He will also do max damage by tossing items or useless gil toward the end of the game.

Meliadoul syndrome. By the time you finally unlock it, you've got better options.
Still, it has Ignore Height and Secret Hunt, and its Difference ability wrecks mages. Pretty decent for poach-farming.

Umaro probably gets my vote; I like the guy, but it's been ages since I bothered to use him. Meliadoul is another obvious choice. Having a hard time thinking of a good candidate that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Any character in FF Tactics Advance / A2 who can't change jobs or learn non-special job moves may not be entirely useless, but they are pretty damn disappointing. Judgemaster Cid falls into this category in A1, and I think a couple of the secret / postgame characters in A2 do as well.
