Mitch does seem to have an insane amount of power. Hell, he can block anything coming to a vote in the Senate, even if it will get majority vote, simply because he doesnt like it. That power seems pretty extreme. Maybe in the distant future... this will be looked at? I know that isnt happening any time soon though

Mitch has a lot of power because he's good at shoring up the repubs and whipping them into line. Like him or hate him, he's effective as his job.

As long as he's the majority leader with the RNC behind him, he has a lot of leverage/ability to put pressure on repubs. by threatening to pull funding/run candiates against them when they are up for reelection, torpedo any legislation they want to put forward in the future, ect..

Nancy and the DNC do the same thing, they're just much less effective at it.
