Adidas/Reebok has been tapping a lot into their retro portfolio but it's only so deep, and deterred by a number of wasted years. Zigtech, Crossfit....and the Iverson line in later years was a bit forgettable. The retro releases have botched the DMX system and they've had a hard time with marketable endorsements.

In this industry there's no competing with Nike but Adidas in like second place(?) isn't untouchable.

Davis' sentiment about creativity is something a lot of signature athletes/celebs say when they sign with smaller brands because in reality, it's largely because Nike doesn't need any of their business. Baron Davis, although he had his moments, was never going to be worth a signature shoe under Nike, maybe a billboard at best.
