hich optional boss, or even regular enemy, is the worst in the series? Whether that be the hardest or the most frustrating, or maybe some other reason.

It was a close race between FF7 and FF9, but the winner for Best OST goes to FF7.

80/80

READ THE POLL

I deleted the first topic because I think this one will stim better off the conversation to be had. But I'll still include a few examples, if you read below:

Ozma - FF9: The general optional superboss for FF9. Difference being you have to find a bunch of friendly enemies and give them items (sometimes rare items) throughout the world map just to physically attack this guy. An extra annoyance on top of a decently difficult battle.
Yiazmat - FF12: Last hunt in FF12. The fight isn't the hardest, but my god is it a long one. I'm sure my gambit setup sucked, but I fought this guy for well over a couple hours before finally beating him. After research, it seems the "over an hour" mark is a nice average time to actually finish this dude off. His difficulty unfortunately stims from "HP sponge syndrome"
Emerald Weapon - FF7: With the right materia setup, this guy can actually be a breeze. If you forego the OP materia and attempt to take this guy on the old fashioned way, it's nutty. He has a specific attack that in and of itself gets stronger with the more materia you have equiped. If you forego the Underwater materia, you have 20 minutes to kill him.
Marlboro - FF8: Some debate on this one, but I chose the FF8 version of this enemy strictly due to him using Bad Breath IMMEDIATELY at the start of every fight. I believe in most other FFs I've played, he merely has a chance to use this god awful attack, but in FF8, it's used at the start, every time, and as we all know, it inflicts just about every single status effect on all party members. If you've forgotten to heavily junction abilities to your St-Def, then you absolutely cannot win this fight, unless you somehow get a Hero/Holy War off before he uses Bad Breath.
Wiegraf 1v1 - FFTactics: Riovanes castle 1v1 with Wiegraf. If you haven't had a good speed amplifier while leveling up your Ramza (via Thief or Ninja or Monk), you may just be too slow against this fight right off the bat. Not to mention the optional status effects from his abilities. Oh...you didn't make a backup save? I've been there. It sucks.

Best Minigame: Triple Triad via FF8
Worst Minigame: Dodging Lightning via FF10
Best Gameplay Mechanics: Set classes and (learnable) abilities via FF4/6/9
Worst Protagonist: Vaan via FF12
Best Cid: Cid Highwind via FF7
Worst Dungeon: The Great Crystal via FF12
Best Soundtrack: OST via FF7

My vote in general goes to Marlboro via FF8, if only because I had to farm those goddamn Marlboro tentacles to create items and Quistis's ultimate weapon. But not just that. I wanted to level up on those two islands (The Island Closest to Heaven/Hell) and anytime this fucker pops up, it just ruins the mood. It forces you to save after every successful fight.

I think Yiazmat is the one for me. It's a good boss, just way too long. and the fact that you can easily accidentally reflect a Renew onto him if you aren't paying attention just makes it worse. Though you can leave and come back and his HP will remain the same so maybe it's not so bad.

Living Liquid (A3S) - FFXIV Heavensward

This was the raid fight that was so bad, it made entire statics disband forever and never return to the game. It became a meme with how difficult a hurdle it was, and the next fight after it was laughable in comparison. There's only one good thing that came out of this fight and that was a resurgence of Pepsi Man memes.

On the other hand, groups that managed to get through it had proven they were ready for any challenge that expansion would throw at them.

First hand experience would be Yaizmat in the original version when your damage is capped at 9999. Super bosses that take ages to beat are not fun or engaging, their just a chore.

But EVEN WORSE then it was Behemoth who alternates between physical and magical immunity periodically. Idk if there was a easier way of fighting him but I had to disengage from combat each time, swap my gambit to harm him again and return countless times to beat him.

Swap the party members, or have some magical and physical gambits ready and menu them off and on as needed.

Ozma, hands down, for worst optional boss. Tried the fight many times, and it always seemed completely random. Damage he did to my party fluctuated wildly from round to round and felt like he could attack whenever he wanted to. Whole thing felt so chaotic and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the way stuff happened. I'm sure the mechanics of the battle have been broken down, but trying it at release with no outside information was an exercise in futility.

the problem with the AAA superbosses is there is virtually only 1 specific way to beat them. It involves grinding to ultrahigh levels, having the best equip, and cheesing strategy

Check out post #1. Hardest/Most annoying boss and/or regular enemy. Couldn't fit it all in the Topic Title unfortunately.

Yunalesca in FFX because of her status ailments (mostly zombifying the entire party), and the fact that it's preceded by a 5-minute long unskippable cutscene.

I forgot all about this fight. Then her huge face. Reminded me of the Hospital room in Silent Hill 4 with the chicks gigantic face staring at you

I recall having some difficulty with some of FFV advance's exclusive optional bosses.

Ozma is definitely up there in difficulty too.

Yiazmat is just really really dumb and obnoxious.

Ohhh now I see post #11. Sorry @Kisai . I completely goofed.

Scratch Wiegraf from this posting. Brainfarted.

However, still read post #1. You both goofed on that one. It's the hardest optional boss/enemy. Couldn't fit it all in the Topic Title.

Wiegraf is not optional.

Also while the solution is not always easy to find, it's actually not too likely for you to be legitimately unable to beat him. There's almost always something you can do to win.

Yep, covered that.

Despite the wiegraf post, do you have a vote/nomination? Gonna go into an actual poll

Emerald weapon was pretty fun. Especially if you set someone up with two materias and then made sure their max HP was 9999. One of the easiest way to engineer the lucky 7 combo. Ruby weapon was a lot more annoying.

Great choice. I beat it on my second attempt (17 minutes, no mistakes, OW's "certificate").
.

You can, however, "get lucky" with RNG rolls and trigger Selphie's The End limit break.

Omega Weapon is borderline unfair to a blind player (with no foreknowledge Terra Break is essentially a guaranteed kill unless you're using invincibility stuff, though you might know enough to spam limit breaks and kill it before it uses it) but pretty simple when you know about how it works since it follows a pretty strict pattern, it can throw in a couple extra regular attacks here and there but all its big moves are always used in the exact same order so you know when they're coming, and FFVIII makes it easy to be invincible at will. That's in contrast to something like Emerald WEAPON, who is even worse to a blind player (Aire Tam Storm is a 100% guaranteed total party kill without advanced knowledge of how it works) but still can put up a solid fight even when you know what it does.
