Don't see why not, if they can survive this.

No, not with the sea changes in movie distribution models that COVID accelerated.

Movie theaters werent doing great pre covid anyway. I don't think theyll cease to exist, but we'll definitely have way less of them.

I don't think they'd return if without a pandemic. Movie theaters were already going downhill

It'll depend on how well they're able to survive the next year, and how what the economy is going to look like overall. Long term, I'm optimistic, but they have to get there first, and there will definetly be some culling in the meantime.

If someone was actively choosing to go out to be entertained prior to the pandemic, I'm not sure why they would change afterwards (assuming they are in the same economic situation.) It's not like streaming is some brand new concept that people needed the pandemic to become familiar with.

Don't underestimate how many people became familiar with streaming due to the pandemic. Got a lot of family that introduced themselves to Netflix/Disney+ with the pandemic. Especially the older ones.

For a lot of people, it definitely was. Streaming was for TV shows or movies released exclusively for streaming. Movie Theatre movies were simply not released on streaming in a timely manner, and either way people liked the spectacle of the big screen. Now those movies are being released on streaming either at release or shortly after, people are more used to watching tentpole mainstream movies at home, and they're realizing the convenience/lower cost of doing so.

I think so. Once people are able to freely go outside again without restrictions, people will want to go to movie theaters to see people again and experience that bustle of opening night or that raucous reaction for a great movie/great scenes.

Yeah, people go out to the movies because they want to experience a spectacle, and also socialize silently and without actually interacting with anyone

There aren't that many activities that enable that

Of course they can
The Internet can change a lot of things, and it already did change many things. But it can replace the cinema experience. Watching a movie at home (even if you invite friends over) is not the same thing as in Cinema

No.
If i thought otherwise I'd invest in AMC. At this point if you do that it's because you think Disney is gonna buy them.

Yes, but that's in part because they weren't doing super great beforehand.

we might not get to the point where there's going to be multiple successful theaters in large/mid-size markets, but yes, I think theaters are going to be okay
