It's 99% a long wall of attractive women. I had to look at the comments too, and yeah it's stuff like "you're so cute!" and (to someone in Missouri) "Does Missouri love company? Asking for a friend"

I learned a while ago that the site is mega thirsty pervs hiding under a facade of progressive gentlemen (*tips fedora*) but dang this is something haha.

It's because it's Christmas. Imgur typically downvotes selfie pictures pretty hard, so they don't end up on the front page, but there's an informal rule that they're allowed on Christmas.

Naturally, this does just mean that only the following end up there, all of which you currently see there:
1) Hot women
(huge gap here)
2) Goofy ugly dudes
3) Some sort of minority/handicapped person
4) Doctor/firefighter/soldier/etc
(huge gap here)
5) People doing something funny

well, this is national attention whore day on imgur (they have like three a year, the others being halloween and selfie day) so simping is acceptable there today... and there's probably 10 simps to every 1 decent dude. simp brains are tiny, so "omg so cute" and "wow nice titties" are about the most intelligent comment they can come up with

I posted a picture of somebody else (reason: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/313-gamefaqs-world-united-kingdom/79198299) and even put in the title it wasn't me, but I've already been complimented on my "beautiful smile".

I'd agree with you if it really was in the spirit of what this was initially supposed to be. I was on imgur when the first selfiemas was thought of and it originally was supposed to be a day where every selfie got upvoted in support of people.

Shockingly that is absolutely not the thing that happened. Search by New and you'd find tons of selfies that were not getting upvoted or worse off getting downvoted into the negatives. But if you were a hot chick or goofy/quirky guy right to the front page!

That's why I sorta just hate the tradition. It's no different than normal imgur except it just destroys any other content the page might have

Cyric makes guides for sites that pay him, and then also just posts them to GameFAQs, IIRC.

This is the only site that pays me, and even then only for certain guides through the Bounty system.

But I don't even do it for the money. I've done it for so long because it serves as a creative outlet for me and it helps me categorize various thoughts that I have in my head about the games I play. The fact that it helps other people and gives them more enjoyment of those games does make it feel worth it. I get nice feedback every once in a while and that stuff just makes my day. :)
