I need to branch out and level up my team. Any advice?

I'm outside the Sky Pirates place, about level 30-32 ish

There is a wiki that has a list of familiars showing evolutions and which special attacks they learn from evolution or artifacts. Look at some of the pics and choose some familiars that intrigue or amuse you. Having a familiar that you choose makes the game more personal.

I used Oliver's basic one the entire game and fed it rare candies (or whatever) to keep its stats decent. Not the best idea, but it worked. If you're already past that first desert area, then you should be aware that (if you got the special edition? Any edition?) the DBZ dude who runs that trials arena can give you golden familiars as some type of ticket redemption prize. Dunno if their stats are higher, but there should be a good selection there, including some of the starting familiars.

Been a long time since I played, so I forget just about everything's names.

Esther's just did the final evolution so I need to level that up separately (the penguin). I like the fire dude and the robot. Want to get them to high levels

I've also found it's important to keep them all equipped with weapons/gear, like any other RPG (even if you don't see it during combat)
